“Skincare for men"? Is it really made for men or just another marketing ploy?

Published 4 months ago

So, is “skincare for men” just another marketing ploy for some extra cash grab or it’s science based? It may sound ridiculous but there is some truth to this according to a Dermatologist, Dr Listya Paramita. Apparently, most men’s skin tend to be thicker than women’s by 20% while also having more sweat glands therefore producing more oil. HOWEVER, that does not mean males cannot or shouldn’t be using skincare that are not “made for men”.

Skincare is genderless and if a product works for your skin, then who cares right? The labels like “for men” or “for women” that usually pop up in skincare products are just a part of a marketing strategy. Since women in general are more responsive to the market of cosmetics and skincare, it’s only natural for companies to cater more towards women instead of men.

So…the answer is yes, “skincare for men” is literally just another marketing ploy. Not to mention, Korea has become one of the countries that is very advanced in the technology for skincare while being very inclusive with their products for both skincare and makeup, catering to males and females as it’s a norm in their culture to take care of their skin and appearances.
